Discover Europe through the lens of leadership, innovation and global citizenship on this immersive journey across Germany, France and Belgium. Explore the continent’s centers of industry, politics and culture as you visit influential institutions like the EU Parliament.

Along the way, experience the charm of historic cities, taste regional cuisines and connect with diverse communities to see how collaboration, culture and history intertwine to shape Europe’s future. Conclude in Paris, where art, history and modern influence come together to inspire the next generation of global leaders.

On GLA’s Europe Internship: Career Exploration in International Business, Law & Global Innovation With A Focus On Political Science you will:

  • Tour Germany’s financial and industrial centers, including the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and Bundesbank
  • Explore Heidelberg’s castles and take part in leadership-focused activities
  • Visit key European institutions like the EU Parliament and the Council of Europe
  • Join interactive workshops on diplomacy, democracy and European policy
  • Discover cultural landmarks and UNESCO sites across Strasbourg, Brussels and Paris
  • Experience local traditions and cuisine, from Alsatian villages to Parisian cafés

Sample Itinerary

Let’s take a sneak peek at what your program experience might look like this summer! Please note that the order of activities may differ for each program session. The details provided here represent a general outline of what you can anticipate, though community service projects and activities are subject to change based on the needs of our local community partners, cultural celebrations and traditions, weather conditions and the specific requirements of the student group.

Day 1: Arrival

Arrive at Frankfurt Airport (FRA), where staff will be on hand to greet you and help with transfers to your hotel. Meet up with your fellow travelers and get acquainted with your new internship family. We will spend the evening getting to know each other and discussing an important safety orientation.

Day 2: Orientation & Financial Discovery

Start with an orientation in Frankfurt, then explore Germany’s financial world through visits to the Bundesbank and the Money Museum. A guest lecture ties it all together with insight into global finance and European economic systems.

Day 3: Finance & Aviation In Frankfurt

Visit the Frankfurt Stock Exchange to learn how global markets operate, then take a behind-the-scenes tour of Frankfurt Airport to explore the logistics and technology that power one of the world’s busiest hubs.

Days 4–6: Innovation, Industry & Adventure – Heidelberg & Stuttgart

Explore Heidelberg’s Daimler Truck plant and modern agricultural manufacturing, enjoy its historic old town and castle, then head to Stuttgart for an inside look at Germany’s automotive innovation at the Mercedes-Benz Museum and production plant.

Days 7–9: Crossing Into France – Strasbourg & European Institutions

Visit the Sinsheim Technik Museum on your way to Strasbourg, unwind at the Caracalla Spa and explore the city’s canals and historic charm before diving into European governance at the Lieu d’Europe and the Council of Europe.

Days 10–13: Diplomacy, Democracy & Youth Leadership In Strasbourg

Take part in an EU Parliament simulation, join workshops at the Centre Robert Schuman and European Youth Center and visit the Memorial Alsace-Moselle, while also enjoying Strasbourg’s rich culture, cuisine, and UNESCO heritage sites.

Day 14: Chocolate Museum In Alsace

Visit the Chocolate Museum to learn about the history and craft of chocolate, then explore Alsace’s charming villages and the impressive Haute Koenigsbourg Castle.

Days 15–17: The Heart Of The EU – Luxembourg & Brussels

Stop in Luxembourg for a fun city treasure hunt, then continue to Brussels to visit the European Parliament and the House of European History for a deeper look at diplomacy and Europe’s evolving identity.

Days 18–20: Welcome To Paris!

Arrive in Paris for a Seine River cruise and visits to iconic sites like the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, and Versailles, plus time in Montmartre and a community service project connecting leadership with civic engagement.

Day 21: Departure Day

Travel to Charles de Gaulle Airport with the memories and friendships you’ve made as staff assist you through check-in and departure. Bon voyage!

Hands-on Learning

Experience Europe through immersive, hands-on learning as you explore Germany’s financial and industrial hubs, from the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and Bundesbank to cutting-edge production plants. Journey to historic Heidelberg and Stuttgart to witness innovation in manufacturing, agriculture and automotive engineering firsthand. Engage directly with European governance at the EU Parliament, Council of Europe and NATO Headquarters through interactive workshops, roleplay simulations and youth leadership sessions.

Along the way, discover cultural landmarks, UNESCO World Heritage sites and local traditions across Strasbourg, Brussels and Paris—from charming Alsatian villages to the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. Round out your experience by contributing to community led service projects. This program combines real-world exploration, leadership development and cultural immersion for a truly experiential European adventure.

Adventure

Travel by train, bus and boat while exploring iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Versailles and Montmartre. Challenge yourself with interactive city treasure hunts, outdoor leadership activities and hands-on visits to cutting-edge production plants and museums.

Lodging & Meals

Students will have various Home Bases throughout the program due to its travel-focused nature, including youth hostels or hotel blocks.

Youth hostels offer dorm-style accommodations with AC, en-suite bathrooms and common areas. All hotels are 3-star, featuring en-suite bathrooms, AC and rooms with 2-6 beds.

Across your journey, you’ll experience the rich culinary diversity of Europe. In Germany, enjoy hearty regional dishes like schnitzel, sausages and käsespätzle, paired with freshly baked pretzels. In Strasbourg, savor the blend of French and German flavors with flammekueche and crusty baguettes. Continue to Belgium to taste world-famous waffles, rich chocolates and crispy fries, before ending in Paris, where you’ll indulge in buttery croissants, delicate pastries and the timeless elegance of French café culture.

Introduction

High school students who participate in this GLA travel internship in Europe will develop essential leadership and career skills, while working on initiatives centered around the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development worldwide.

Throughout the course of your session you will complete 62 total internship hours:

Learning Objectives

The outcomes of this internship are related to five main learning objectives:

  1. Clarify personal career goals and professional interests while gaining insight into European political systems and policy environments in Germany, France and Belgium.
  2. Build foundational knowledge of contemporary European political trends, key concepts and governance case studies.
  3. Compare and clearly articulate diverse political perspectives within Europe’s social, cultural and historical contexts.
  4. Analyze quantitative and qualitative political data, policy documents and academic sources to form evidence-based conclusions.
  5. Evaluate real-world political institutions, processes, and civic spaces at the local, national and EU levels.

Sustainable Development Goals

The 2030 United Nations Agenda for Sustainable Development serves as the framework for discussions and the self-study coursework for our student interns here in Bali. During this travel internship, you will focus on three SDGs, including:

Complete a core curriculum with your peers and through the guidance of your internship supervisor. Build your personal competitive edge, as part of a cohort of student interns working in partnership with our global nonprofit partner in Bali. Create a portfolio from completed project work to enhance your college application or future career resume.
