Program Overview

On this program you will take in the wonders of the Samana Bay, where humpback whales come to have their babies each year. While you likely won’t see whales up close on this program, you will work alongside marine conservationists and community members to restore this natural habitat and its surroundings through coral reef restoration, beach cleanups, trail maintenance and species identification. Learn how the ocean can be protected through governmental, organizational and community action. Revel in the natural beauty of the Dominican Republic as you explore hidden beaches and snorkel in crystal clear waters. Get ready to go outside of your comfort zone with high adventure activities, such as ziplining and speed boating. In just a short time, Samana will come to feel like a home away from home.

Community Service

During your time on this Caribbean island, you’ll contribute to meaningful community service projects. Work alongside biologists and conservationists to build artificial coral reefs as part of a unique conservation project that will attract sea life and promote marine biodiversity. Collaborate with your peers to restore mangrove forests, which shield the Dominican shoreline from the effects of climate change and erosion. Lastly, work to protect the natural spaces that surround Samana Bay through trail maintenance and beach cleanups.

Immersive Learning

Discover the island way of life through exceptional cultural experiences during your time in the Caribbean. Become immersed in the Dominican Republic’s marine life and island life through nighttime activities such as cooking and dance, where you’ll taste the flavors of the Caribbean and learn a few steps of Dominican bachata or merengue. Visit the local whale museum, dedicated to the incredible humpback whales that visit Samana Bay each year. End your trip with an excursion to the historical center of Santo Domingo, where you’ll learn more about the Dominican Republic’s colonial history and have an opportunity to pick up a few token souvenirs from your travels!

Adventure

Hundreds of miles of pure Caribbean coastline. Unspoiled ocean views. White sand beaches you can sink your toes into. And countless stars in the evening sky twinkling just above you. Adventure is everywhere to be found in the Dominican Republic, and you’ll have no shortage of opportunities to explore this hidden gem of the Caribbean. Zipline across wide expanses and among tree tops through a lush forest. Explore hidden white sand beaches and snorkel in aquamarine waters. Go kayaking and identify native sea life.
