Pack the ultimate Japanese adventure into your spring break on this adventure-packed, 7-day immersion through Tokyo and its surrounding culture-rich enclaves. Designed for high school students looking to maximize their time abroad, this high-energy journey explores the fascinating contrast between ancient heritage and modern urban life. Based in the heart of Japan’s iconic capital, our student travelers step inside the sacred traditions of sumo wrestling, master local culinary arts through hands-on workshops, and navigate the dynamic neighborhoods of Shibuya, Shinjuku, and historic Asakusa. From interactive museum experiences to iconic temple grounds, return home with a deep cultural perspective, incredible memories, and an authentic taste of Japan’s most vibrant metropolis.
On GLA’s Japan: Spring Break Tokyo Adventure program you will:
- Step into the sacred world of sumo wrestling to learn its ancient rituals, meet local practitioners, and share a traditional chanko nabe meal
- Master traditional Japanese culinary techniques during an interactive, hands-on sushi-making workshop
- Design your own custom instant ramen and explore food innovation at Yokohama’s famous CupNoodles Museum
- Explore the contrast between historic Tokyo and futuristic cityscapes across Shibuya, Shinjuku and the ancient Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa
- Immerse yourself in Japanese youth culture, historic shrines, and world-famous neighborhood districts on a fast-paced spring break track
