Program Overview
Reset your idea of spring break and trade the routine getaway for an epic week of real impact and island vibe! On this high-impact 7-day escape, you’ll dive headfirst into the vibrant heart of Belize—partnering side-by-side with passionate local teachers and primary students at the Helping Hands Resource Center. Spearheaded by a Belizean educator, your days will be packed with empowering kids through literacy, creative learning and fun mentorship. But the impact is only half the story. Unwind from your service work by exploring rainforest wildlife at the world-famous Belize Zoo, soaking up the “Go Slow” island energy on Caye Caulker and setting sail on an unforgettable snorkeling adventure over vibrant coral reefs in crystal-clear turquoise waters.
On GLA’s Belize: Spring Break Caribbean Adventure program you will:
- Swap standard vacation routines for 12 certified service hours making a genuine difference in children’s lives
- Get an insider tour of the famous Belize Zoo to encounter rescued Jaguars, Tapirs, and native rainforest wildlife
- Cruise the deep blue Caribbean waters and snorkel alongside marine life on the Belize Barrier Reef

Helping Hands Community Center
This experience is built on authentic partnership with Mrs. Emily Martinez Palacio—a powerhouse retired educator and nationally revered Belizean leader who founded the Helping Hands Community Center in Belmopan. Mrs. Emily has spent her life championing education, youth and women’s advocacy. Rather than dropping in with pre-packaged projects, GLA students step directly into Mrs. Emily’s established vision, working alongside local Belizean teachers to facilitate lively, curriculum-aligned lessons. It’s an unbeatable chance to learn directly from local leaders, offer real encouragement and create a joyful, high-energy learning space for local kids.
The Program Experience
Service Learning
Turn your passion into action by supporting educational equity where it matters most! Partnering with local teachers at Helping Hands, you’ll work directly with primary students (Infant 1 through Standard 6) to make learning exciting and accessible. Your service ranges from leading small-group reading circles and English-language exercises to running creative, hands-on learning workshops. Grounded in true cultural exchange and mutual inspiration, you’ll leave behind a lasting legacy of encouragement for local students while gaining real-world leadership and community development experience.
Adventure
From the lush jungle interior to the sun-drenched shores of the Caribbean, this spring break is packed with non-stop excitement! Start your journey surrounded by Belize’s wild savannas and eco-reserve trails. mid-week, catch a speedboat water taxi across the glowing blue sea to Caye Caulker. Then, level up your spring break on a full-day excursion—diving into the crystal-clear waters of the Belize Barrier Reef to snorkel alongside stingrays, nurse sharks and tropical marine life.
Country Spotlight
Immerse yourself in a warm, welcoming and English-speaking paradise where Central American rainforest meets Caribbean soul!
Lodging: Contrast the rustic eco-charm in our enclosed compound surrounded by nature for the first half of the program—with a cozy, family-owned coastal hotel block right on the shores of Caye Caulker, equipped with air conditioning, en-suite bathrooms, and easy beach access.
Meals: Fuel your service and adventure with delicious, freshly cooked Belizean flavor! Enjoy staples like coconut rice and beans, savory stewed chicken, fried plantains, fresh-caught fish, warm fry jacks and an abundance of fresh tropical fruit, balanced daily with familiar Western favorites.
