“This trip was inspirational, I learned that not only do I want to do marine conservation but I want to get involved in cultural projects. Patience matter, kindness matters, community matters. You will learn so much about yourself, I would do this 100% over and over again!”
The Program Experience
Service Learning
Partner directly with local conservation organizations to protect and restore Hawaiʻi’s delicate forests, native wildlife habitats and dryland ecosystems. Through hands-on stewardship projects, contribute to habitat recovery while building a strong connection to the land and local communities. Guided by the Hawaiian principle of aloha ʻāina—deep love and respect for the land you’ll explore the island’s rich history and living culture through traditional practices like lei making and hula, gaining a grounded understanding of the sacred bond between people, place and heritage on the Big Island.

Outdoor Adventure
Discover the raw, natural power of the Big Island through outdoor exploration! Snorkel in pristine coastal waters alongside marine life, hike scenic volcanic trails and explore Hawaii Volcanoes National Park—home to Kīlauea, one of the most active volcanoes on Earth. Unwind on secluded beaches, take in dramatic island landscapes and experience stargazing under some of the clearest, darkest night skies in the world, gaining a deep appreciation for the island’s geological forces and unique environment.

Country Spotlight
Immerse yourself in the vibrant traditions, natural beauty and aloha spirit of the Big Island.
Lodging: Stay in exclusive, dormitory-style accommodations at Hawaii Preparatory Academy (HPA) in Waimea. Students share gender-segregated dorm rooms with dedicated common spaces for group reflection and social time.
Meals: Enjoy wholesome, fresh meals prepared at Home Base that reflect the island’s local agriculture and food traditions, incorporating fresh tropical fruits, local produce and familiar regional favorites to keep you energized throughout your service and adventures.
