Program Overview
On this program, you’ll embark on a journey through the heart, history and natural beauty of Spain — a country that celebrates life through vibrant traditions, rich art and iconic landscapes. Over 12 unforgettable days, you’ll experience a classic Spanish adventure that bridges the energy of the capital with one of the world’s most famous historic trails. Starting in dynamic Madrid, you’ll dive into local urban culture with a street art workshop and feel the raw emotion of a live Flamenco performance. Then, you’ll trade city streets for rolling hills as you take the train to Galicia to hike the final 72mi of the legendary Camino de Santiago. From trekking through lush forests, historic stone villages and serene countryside to relaxing on the coastal beaches of Galicia and savoring culinary specialties, you’ll experience the camaraderie, resilience and spirit that make El Camino a truly transformative adventure.
On GLA’s Spain: El Camino Adventure program you will:
- Explore dynamic Madrid through a hands-on street art workshop and feel the raw emotion of a live Flamenco performance
- Travel by train to Galicia and embark on the ultimate 72-mile trek along the historic Camino de Santiago
- Hike through lush forests, rolling hills and charming stone villages from Sarria all the way to Santiago de Compostela
- Earn your official Compostela certificate upon arriving at the breathtaking Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela
- Unwind after the trail with a coastal beach excursion to a nearby town and savor local Galician culinary specialties on a food tour

Discover the energetic rhythms, rich architectural legacy and world-renowned food culture of Spain.
Lodging: Your GLA Home Base is your “home away from home” throughout your time in Spain, with spaces exclusively reserved for GLA students and staff. In Madrid the group will stay at a hostel, with rooms shared by 2-4 students each. Rooms have ensuite bathrooms and AC. Throughout the rest of the program, the group will stay in cozy rural hotels that cater to the “peregrinos” along the Camino de Santiago. Students will share twin rooms with ensuite bathrooms.
Meals: Food is an integral part of life in Spain, and long, shared meals hold strong significance in Spanish tradition and culture. From diverse tapas to incredible seafood, the culinary experiences you’ll have in Spain will be memorable and unique to the area.
